The back-to-school season seems to come quickly at our house. One day we’re ambling to and from play dates, camp, and beach time. The next, we’re rushing to check chores off our big ‘to do’ list. One of my biggest challenges is school lunch planning. I want to make sure the kids are well fed and excited to dig into lunch each day. My no-fail trick to ensure that the kids devour their school lunch is to add a little fun to the menu.
This summer’s Emoji Movie inspired me to create my own to bring a smile to my little students’ faces. As an emoji-loving texter myself, I had a blast creating this easy and affordable 4-Ingredient Emoji Roll-Ups Bento Box that can be adapted to your kids’ favorite flavors. With just a few ingredients, you can create a lunch that will be the talk of the cafeteria table! Make these emoji roll-ups in advance to keep the chaos out of your morning school routine. Even better, have the kids help you pack lunch!

Once you have your ingredients in hand, with your roll-ups sliced and ready to decorate, pull out your phone for reference. Then have fun using classic emojis such as Happy, Surprised, Angelic, and Heart Eyes to show a little loving fun to your students. Get creative with your own designs too. Quiz the kids after school on whether they could decipher the emoji code!
For a school lunch full of emoji fun, add a note with an emoji code for your student to crack that sends encouragement, love, and happy thoughts. Use a combination of words and emojis to tell a story or share the afternoon’s plans. Try my easy to decipher note: See you at the [car emoji] after [school house emoji]! [heart emoji] Mom.
