This is not your mama’s sweet tea, y’all. This remarkable Sweet Tea Cocktail recipe combines your mama’s favorite home brew with fresh peaches and rum. This all-star recipe will become your new summer obsession!
I don’t know about you, but there are two things I love most during the summer: peaches and ice cold sweet tea. It’s a love my fellow Southerners can relate to. Down the road from where I live, there’s the cutest peach shed. Sure it is a total tourist trap, but I am loving every second of it. There are old cars, homemade ice cream, and peach trees for miles, making it the perfect place to take the family or head out on a date. It also means getting the perfect peaches for a summery Sweet Tea Cocktail recipe. If you’re not from Georgia with peach stands just waiting on the roadside, I highly suggest looking for fresh peaches at your local farmers market instead.
Not Your Mama’s Sweet Tea Cocktail Recipe
On my last visit to that little shed, I thought to myself that sweet tea would go perfectly with the ripe peaches. Let me tell you, I was right! This is not your mama’s sweet tea, y’all! With it being super hot in the south during the summer months, I decided freezing peach purée in ice cube trays and mixing a little rum in my sweet tea would help ease the horrendous humidity.
Ingredients
- 3-4 peaches, pits removed
- Mini bottles of rum
- Sweet tea
Instructions
- In a blender, purée the peaches. I recommend using 2-3 peaches to fill up the ice trays. Save the rest for a garnish.
- Pour puréed peaches into ice trays. Freeze 4-6 hours or overnight.
- Make homemade sweet tea or buy your favorite.
- Once ice cubes are frozen, place 3-4 in a glass for each cocktail.
- Pour sweet tea into each glass, followed by the desired amount of rum. Stir.
- Garnish with a peach slice on the side of the glass. (Optional)
Notes
Home Chef Tip: If you’re having a summer party and want more cold options to serve, freeze extra peach cubes! Before placing them in the freezer, put popsicles sticks in each slot to create an ice-cold peach popsicle. To give an extra kick, add rum, and then place in the freezer for an adults-only treat.
The thing I like best about this simple Sweet Tea Cocktail recipe is that you only need three ingredients. You read that right, you only need peaches, rum, and sweet tea. I like to get the mini bottles of rum because they’re the perfect amount for each cocktail. Of course, you can add more, but I’ve found they add the perfect kick to a drink without kicking my tail too! If you’re not much of an alcohol drinker, take out the rum to create a refreshing summer mocktail. That turns this recipe into the perfect sweet treat for kids and soon to be moms too. You still get an ice cold sweet tea with that subtle hint of peach.
