This One-Pan Beef Penne Bolognese recipe is a 30-Minute Meal packed with ground beef, penne pasta, and plenty of delightful vegetables. This dish needs to be on your dinner table tonight!
One of my favorite pasta dishes is penne bolognese. It’s something I’ve made over and over again for a very long time, and it’s one of my go-to dinners when I’m stumped and can’t decide what to cook. The only things I have against my usual recipe are that it isn’t fast enough and it dirties up one too many pans; I’m a one-pot kind of girl when I can be.
After having a few recipe successes with the Barilla® quick cooking pasta – Penne Pronto – I decided to give it the bolognese treatment, and I tweaked my normal recipe to make it work in one pan and under 30 minutes.
One-Pan Beef Penne Bolognese: A 30-Minute Meal
My favorite part of the sauce is the hidden vegetables. Celery, carrots, and onion – the perfect flavor base for virtually anything – start the sauce. I used to chop my carrots, but since they take the longest to cook, I tried shredding them with my box grater and it totally solved that problem.
Then I just followed my recipe for the sauce. When the sauce was ready to simmer, I added the penne and some extra liquid (a little less than the box called for) to cook the pasta, and turned up the heat. After that, it was just a matter of waiting for the pasta to soften, which takes a total of ten minutes.
That’s it! I used to add grated pecorino romano cheese to my pasta sauce, which is amazing if you have it, but parmesan will do just fine. Add about 1/4 cup directly to the sauce or sprinkle it on when you’re serving. If you’re dairy-free, like we are now, feel free to skip it all together. It won’t hurt one bit.

Notes
Home Chef Tip: Get creative with your vegetable add ins to get your kids to eat more vegetables. Chopped up mushrooms also work very well in this dish.
