There are few things better than spending time with your best friends, catching up over a few elegant appetizers and a round of Strawberry Cantaloupe Wine Sparklers. It is easy to get distracted by the busyness of every day life though, not allowing ourselves downtime to relax and refresh. I know my personal to-do list is never ending with many projects getting pushed back due to a sheer lack of time.
Strawberry Cantaloupe Wine Sparklers
Procrastination is exactly how this cocktail recipe was created, to be honest. I am a farmers market junkie so it has been difficult not going to a market the last three months. There are year-round markets in Arizona; Ohio not so much. Of course, I completely over shopped once they opened! Please don’t judge, you know we all do it.
Fast forward a week and suddenly the kitchen is littered with produce that needs to be used ASAP before it goes bad. I had plans the following day with my new girl friends which called for a fun drink. Turning super ripe fruit into cocktails has started to become the norm for me. Partly because of time, but also due to the fact that I love the more complex flavors you get. Alcohol infusions and simple syrups are an excellent way to maximize soon-to-expire produce.
For these Strawberry Cantaloupe Wine Sparklers, I took my super ripe berries, a little of the leftover cantaloupe from breakfast, and tossed them in the blender with vodka and a honey. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze. The vodka keeps the cubes from freezing 100% solid, which is good! The girls topped them with bubbly pink Moscato for a fun wine sparkler. The cubes slowly dissolve into the wine, giving it an extra fruity kick.
Ingredients
- 1 quart ripe strawberries, tops removed and roughly chopped
- 1 cup roughly chopped cantaloupe
- 1/4 cup vodka
- Honey to taste
- 1-2 bottles pink Moscato or Prosecco wine
- Additional strawberries for garnish
Instructions
- Place chopped fruit and vodka into a blender, pulse to purée.
- Add desired amount of honey for personal taste.
- Pour mixture into 2 ice cube trays. Freeze until solid.
- Place cubes in glasses, top with wine.
- Garnish with berries and serve immediately.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: To make a family-friendly mocktail, substitute apple juice for the vodka. Top cubes with flavored sparkling water of your choice.
